New Tastings, Just for You!

Summer Tastings

It finally feels like the time of year that Calgary truly shines is nearly upon us (as we right this looking out a rain covered window, our fingers are crossed). Not so far from now patios will be pouring over, restaurants will be lined up, and any excuse to leave the house will seem like a good one (get that vitamin D while you can, folks). With that hopeful feeling in mind, we’ve scheduled some delightfully summery tastings for you to enjoy, be it before dinner, as your evening’s main event, or in celebration of something special.

The following are some fun events you should definitely check out:

The Wines of Dirty & Rowdy - Sunday May 26th 2pm-4pm

Hardy Wallace (Winemaker/Proprietor of Dirty & Rowdy) is one of California's most exalted vignerons. He has received praise from the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Bon Appetit, and many more. GQ even called D&R the number one thing you have to taste in 2018! Unfortunately, the wines are made in tiny quantities. We receive one minuscule shipment per year, and then wait impatiently for the next release.

Natural Wine and Poetry - Friday June 7th 6pm-8pm

Wine is Art: It can convey emotion, history, place, politics, and most importantly, at its best, beauty. Wine's similarities with poetry are many. They can both have rhythm, structure, and a desire to be experienced. They can be demure or jovial, celebratory or retrospective. They're also both perceived and pretentious and challenging to understand.

In this tasting we will pair six diverse wines with six equivalent poems for an evening of synaesthesia. Erik Mercier, proprietor of Juice Imports, will be your reader and sommelier. Let the weirdness begin.

Scotch - Rare Independent Bottlings with Igor Kossov - Saturday June 15th 6pm-8pm

We are excited to welcome back by popular demand Igor Kossov, whisky expert and one of Canada's top importers of rare and unique independently bottled Scotch whiskies. Igor will be leading us through a tasting of delicious drams from the likes of The Whisky Agency, Whisky-Fässle, Archives, Jack Weibers and much more. This is sure to be another outstanding event, and we look forward to Igor sharing his stories and knowledge with us!

Wine & Music - The Sled Island Edition - Sunday June 16th 2pm-4pm

The Sled Island Music Festival is known worldwide for its incredibly well curated list of unknown artists, most of whom bend genre definitions to their limits. Join us for our 5th annual immersive tasting, pairing tracks by artists playing at the festival with complementary wines. We'll explore the limits of synaesthesia, hopefully elevating both the music and wine to a whole new level. This is the ultimate kick off event for one of Canada's most unique festivals. Fringe music and natural wine? How could it go wrong?!

Beer Fest @ 17th Avenue! - Thursday June 20th 7pm-9pm

Join us for an epic evening of beer sampling featuring some of Calgary's top breweries and beyond! This will be a walk around, festival style tasting featuring an array of beers in a range of styles. Interact directly with brewers, owners and beer experts for a fun evening!

Stay tuned for participants!
